Learn core skills to significantly improve your confidence and safety outdoors. Whether you are a dog walker, day hiker, overnight backpacker or mountain biker, Outdoor Essentials is for you!

You will learn:

  • Trip planning

  • Hazard assessment

  • Survival priorities

  • Essential equipment

  • Safe, efficient knife, axe and saw use

  • Essential knots

  • Wildlife awareness

  • Basic shelter construction

  • Fire lighting techniques

  • Staying on track and getting unlost

  • Signalling for rescue

  • Map and compass navigation

Location: South Chilcotin Mountains, BC (5-6 hrs north of Vancouver by road)

The wild, unpredictable ways of nature, inspire us to explore the wilderness. Over four days, learn skills that will dramatically improve your ability to cope with unexpected, dangerous situations in the wild. Skills that will allow you to replace equipment with knowledge and let you thrive, not just survive, in the outdoors.

You will learn:

  • Natural shelter construction, with or without tools

  • Making a warm and comfortable bed

  • Advanced fire lighting techniques

  • Staying on track and getting unlost

  • Signalling for rescue

  • Map and compass navigation

  • Natural navigation

  • Locating water and making it safe

  • Finding and preparing wild edible and medicinal plants

  • Tracking animals

  • Making cordage from natural materials

  • Using fire as a carving tool
